Silver Leafed Ceiling - Update

One of our clients was looking for a way to dress up her ceiling.

The first treatment idea she had, was to use the large mirrored medallions hung on the ceiling in an organic pattern. She later decided this was not the look she wanted.

We contacted local artist, Alexis Unfried, and she came up with several patterns and colors from which to choose.

Next Alexis put together several color combinations for the pattern. The client chose option 3, because of the warm tone it brought to the room.

Option 1
Option 2

The final results are pictured below.

Concrete Flooring

Concrete flooring, sometimes referred to as cement flooring, no longer has to be gray and boring.  Coloring concrete or applying textures and patterns can bring new life to this traditionally bland material. Staining concrete is a method of attaining a decorative, easy-to-maintain and durable finish to flooring.

After the floor is properly cleaned, it is time to apply the acid wash to the floor. Tape off all items  and strip off old coatings with machinery. The best way to spread acid stain is evenly and in quadrants.  Cleaning with acid and water opens the pores of the concrete.

Once the acid stain is dried over night, neutralize the floor with ammonia and water to clean any residues left by the acid stain.

Once this is completed and dried, it is time to apply the topical water based stain. The color can be tweaked during the first coat.

The stain should be spread on evenly in quadrants, much like the acid wash. Let this dry, and repeat if necessary to give the concrete floor the protective coat it needs.

While this whole process may seem very simple as you read this, don't be fooled! It is recommended that you have a professional do this job for you. The application can be dangerous, and the results can be unattractive if it is not done properly.

Petrified Wood Sink

Cheryl and Jaime noticed this spectacular sink by Bobo Intriguing Objects, at Market. Displaying the rich character of each piece of petrified wood, these handcrafted vessel sinks are naturally varied in coloration and exterior texture. The wood used was discovered and excavated as whole tree trunks that are still intact. The unique shape, size and color lend to the character of each piece. Each vessel sink is truly a unique work of art, and will add both beauty and function to your bath or master suite.

An Evening with Leo Monahan

Last night I attended an ASID Northwest Chapter Meeting at the Grove Park Arcade. Paper artist, Leo Monahan was the guest speaker.  I was unsure of what to expect - in my mind I thought origami?  After listening to Leo and viewing his work I was impressed by the art as well as the artist. Leo's life journey is as interesting and amazing as his art. Enjoy the samples below, and for a closer look visit the Grove Park Arcade on October 6- December 31, 2012. http://leomonahan.com/.

Christmas Decorating Suvival Tools

We are just starting up our holiday decorating for clients this year! Last year, we had a lot of fun, and as always, enjoyed seeing our clients' family tradition pieces and new treasures.

While decorating last year, I noticed that we repeatedly used the same five items that I packed as a survival bag the first day of our outings, so I thought I should share them with you. Hopefully they can help you this year.

In the bag was a roll of green floral tape, green floral wire, wire cutters, plastic ties and 18” floral picks (like a small dowel rod).  The floral tape was great for holding down electrical plugs with snow villages, and the floral wire and cutters were great for adding decorative items to garland.  The plastic ties were used to hold angels and tree toppers to top of tree.  The biggest life savers were the 18” floral picks. We used them at every home to help strengthen the lit star tree toppers and hold them straight since they were very top heavy!

We hope these tools and tips will be helpful.  Or you could leave the decorating to the professionals. Our design experts can create a simple or elaborate display for your home or business. CSA will execute a cohesive and festive look for your business or residence. Let us take the hassle out of holiday decorating so you can enjoy yourself this season.

Ahseville Showhouse 2012 Pictures

The Cliffs at Walnut Cove was  the venue for the 2012 Asheville Designer Showhouse, benefiting Eblen Charities.

This private residence, built for clients who relocated to this area, was designed by Mountainworks Custom Home Design and built by The Berry Group. The home was decorated by six of the area's premiere interior design teams. Cheryl Smith Associates designed the Master Suite.

A soft color palette creates a tranquil and relaxing space for the Master Bedroom. The combination of light blues and warm browns craft the perfect environment in which to spend the evenings. Contrasting finishes along with vintage pieces create an eclectic space
